MESSAGE TO ALL BRISTOL OCCUPIERS. PLEASE MAKE OTHERS AWARE
Judging by the responses, media interest and emails we have been receiving, it looks like tomorrow is going to be well attended by a wide range of people including families with children. Again, although I’m not a leader and will resist any attempt at being labelled as such, I think it may be worth mentioning we have a duty of care to the people attending and the wider public. Although it is entirely understandable that people are angry, we would ask any one who is intent on violently disrupting our general assembly to reconsider. History has taught us that instruments of oppression can be subdued by way of passive democratic resistance. We have many democratic tools and rights in this country. If we embrace them fully and inspire others across the country to do likewise, it wouldn’t take long to peacefully castrate an already dying system.
Again although I don’t represent any one other than myself, I think it would be a good idea if each of us took responsibility to ensure the safety of others. We are looking for temporary volunteers to help out on the day and to help coordinate discussions during the evening. All awarded positions of trust are to be filled democratically, after having gone through the process of a General assembly. However, in order for this process to begin we are reliant upon the good will, patience and trust of every one.
